Montessori of Walnut provides a peaceful and safe learning environment that develops the

“Whole Child.” Through the Montessori Curriculum, Monthly Unit Studies, Music Appreciation and Outside Classroom, your child will be learning throughout the "Whole Day!"

This is the key to the development of the “Whole Child.”

In the Montessori classroom the children work independently at their own pace. While in the Montessori classroom environment, where there are independent choices, the child stimulates his/her own natural instincts and interests for self-directed learning. The child becomes interested and self-motivated to work cooperatively, become responsible and independent, gain effective communication and leadership skills and appreciate diversity. Dr. Maria Montessori developed a well founded program for the education of the young child which include the five major areas as follows:

• Language
• Math
• Practical Life
• Sensorial
• Cultural Studies

Montessori Method

Language: Throughout the entire Montessori environment, the child hears and is encouraged to use precise vocabulary. The language materials first introduce the child to the marvelous twenty-six letters of the alphabet and their phonetic sounds, which later enables the child to begin building words, sentences and whole stories using the moveable alphabet.

Math: The young child naturally has a mathematical mind. They have the capacity to reason, to calculate and to estimate. The Mathematics materials assist the child in developing their mathematical skills.

Practical Life: Practical Life materials and exercises develop coordination, concentration, organization and independence while achieving skills to care for themselves and the environment.

Sensorial: The Sensorial materials provide a range of activities and exercises for the child to explore. The Montessori materials help the child in learning to differentiate between sizes, shapes, sounds, colors, textures, and taste.

Cultural Studies: Through Monthly Unit Studies, taught in a “traditional structured group setting”, your child will be introduced to the study of Science, History, Geography, Art, and Music. Each month your child’s classroom will Explore, Discover, and Learn about different Unit Studies, such as: Life Cycles, Plant Life, our World, the Solar System, the Five Food Groups, our Five Senses, Dental Hygiene, the Heart, Cultural Traditions, celebration of Holidays, and many more!

Infant Toddler Program

Our Infant Toddler Program is a “Home Away From Home” in which your child can Love, Laugh and Learn!

Montessori of Walnut offers a peaceful and safe learning environment for your young child. Small groups facilitate personalized care that young children need. Our small group size, with a one to four ratio, is a key component to our quality care. MOW provides a prepared environment in which your child can Explore, Discover and Learn while being loved and cared for by their teachers.

Outside Classroom

Your child will experience the “Wonders of the Outdoors” in our park-like, secure, and well maintained playgrounds. The playgrounds are equipped with age appropriate playground equipment. There are large grass areas and several shade structures --- a perfect setting for outdoor learning!

Play is an active form of learning that unites the mind, body, and spirit. Children’s learning occurs best when the whole-self is involved. Children become interested in learning when they learn through play. While playing with their classmates, they will begin to develop critical social and behavioral skills, which can translate into social confidence. It is proven that exercise is vital in order to maintain a healthy body and mind

Through outdoor play, the children can accomplish the exercise their bodies require for healthy living. Outdoor play builds coordination and enhances the development of Large Motor Skills. These activities have minimal structure; however, the children are encouraged to explore, participate, and play, both individually and together. Every aspect of a child’s life is interwoven with play. This is the nature of the child!

Extra Curricular Activities

Swimming Lessons: Montessori of Walnut is equipped with a large 3 1/2 foot deep swimming pool. Swimming lessons are offered by American Red Cross authorized instructors. The Swim to You instructors offer private, semi private, and small group lessons to students who are potty trained. Lessons are held from July through October.

Active Youth: These 30 minute classes are designed to encourage your child to be active!

Students will learn: 

• spacial awareness
• age appropriate exercises and physical activities
• balance
• hand-eye coordination
• proper stretching and flexibility
• injury prevention and safety
• rhythmic skills
• basic nutrition and the importance of water
• strength and endurance
• how to properly bounce, kick, toss, throw, roll, catch a strike a ball
• Plus many more activities and skills!

Keyboarding: Our keyboarding classes introduce the piano to students ages 3-6. In a small group setting, each child is provided a keyboard. Children learn songs, note reading, ear training and are able to sing along! Music participation enhances self-expression, memory skills, concentration, and coordination. Also, through music education, students are able to build self-confidence and self-esteem

Chinese Class: Our Chinese classes are held in 30 minute sessions and focus on students learning basic sight words, numbers, colors, and a variety of different songs.

Spanish Class: Our Spanish classes are held in 30 minute sessions and focus on students learning basic sight words, numbers, colors, and a variety of different songs.
