Must-Try BBQ in LA's K-Town: Kang Ho-dong Baekjeong 🌈😋
Even though I saw many negative reviews before coming, I was pleasantly surprised after trying it out myself! The prices are reasonable, the food is fresh, and the atmosphere is fantastic!
✅ Beef Set Meal
We opted for the beef set meal as it's more affordable — a single portion of brisket alone already costs $60.
✅ Brisket
This is what we came for! It's super fresh! The meat is juicy, and the brisket has more fat compared to other meats and it's cut thickly. This makes it taste even better. When the fatty part is grilled, it gets slightly charred. Grilling it until it reaches medium heat is just perfect, it's so delicious! You can savor it without adding any condiments, and juices burst in your mouth with every bite!
✅ Fatty Beef
Very fresh, and no fishy smell at all. It's not tough in the slightest. After grilling, dip it in the not-fully-set egg wash provided on the side. The fusion of the meat's aroma with the egg wash gives it a unique taste. The egg wash has a slight salty flavor, it's super yummy even when eaten just as it is.
✅ Marinated Beef
This has less fat compared to the previous two but the good thing is that it doesn't have the strong soy sauce flavor that other marinated beef dishes have. The seasoning only seems to consist of pepper and salt, retaining the original beef flavor.
✅ Beef Fat Soup
It's tasty! It has a lot of ingredients and everything, from the bean sprouts, tofu, to cucumbers, are well-flavored. This really amazed me because the chili paste flavor is not as strong as the ones I had before. The sour and spicy taste hides the soybean paste flavor. Perfect to drink when eating BBQ to cleanse the palate.
✅ Fresh Pork Belly
This is not part of the beef meal. As a pork lover, I ordered this separately. It has a generous portion and is super tasty! Because of the original pork texture, the pork belly tastes even better than beef — it's not fishy at all. After grilling it well done, the outside layer becomes particularly chewy. The inside consists of a layer of fat and the rest are firm flesh, making every bite rich in sensations.
✅ Lunch Box
Ordering this even comes with a little show. The waiter brings a metal lunch box containing segregated Korean bibimbap and side dishes. The waiter will then shake it in front of you before opening it to reveal a well-mixed bibimbap. However, for me, the taste is average. It's worth ordering if you love eating staple food.
✅ Steamed Egg
A must-try for steamed egg enthusiasts! The texture is silky and the salted steamed egg is very aromatic.
🎀 The service is comparable to Haidilao; the selling point is that you don’t have to lift a finger! From the moment you enter, all of the side dishes and accompanying dishes are served fast, and different waiters take turns helping you grill and cut the meat. Coming here, you only have to concentrate on enjoying your meal!
✅If you choose to park right in front of the restaurant, you would need to pay a $10 fee at the entrance of the entire plaza.
I absolutely love the restaurant's atmosphere! The lighting, decoration, and cleanliness are on point. They play popular K-pop music, making it the perfect place for a small get-together with friends.
