🌵Joshua Tree National Park Guide🌵 Rock Climbing and Stargazing Guide‼️
Joshua Tree National Park was established due to the efforts of a female conservationist, Minerva Hoyt. What's unique about this park is that Joshua Trees only grow here worldwide. Each tree has an odd and curious shape that stands out. A 2-hour drive from Los Angeles, we spent two nights and one day.
🏨Accommodation:
Stayed in 29 Palms. The town's name is too cute, and throughout the town are huge cactus plants that look like toys. It's only a 10-minute drive from the northern gate of the National Park.
🚗 Car rental:
Just fill up the tank, no other special requests, and the road conditions were not complicated.
☀️ Preparation:
Each person should carry at least three bottles of water, prepare their lunch and dinner, and dress appropriately for wind and sun.
💫 I highly recommend two of the most well-known trails:
1⃣Split Rock: Lots of photogenic Joshua Trees here. A great background with many trees and rocks.
2⃣Hidden Valley: True to its moniker as the most popular hiking route. Slightly high in elevation, and there are numerous rocks to climb, which I highly recommend.
🧗♀️Rock climbing :
In most national parks, one has to stick to the trail, but at Joshua Tree, the ranger informed us that we could wander about and climb rocks freely! The rock here offers a solid grip, making it a fun climb. We saw many rock-climbing enthusiasts with their professional mat and ropes. If you love climbing, don't miss this!
🌅Sunset:
Keys View is the hidden gem for viewing the sunset. It's the most gorgeous time of day, with the entire sky transitioning from orange to gold, then pink to purple. Your trip to Joshua Tree National Park would be incomplete without viewing the sunset!
🎇Stargazing:
Guided by the Ranger, the area near the Hidden Valley is 80% dark, and the area near Cholla Cactus is 100% dark. Those who are serious about stargazing can choose the latter. For me, the stars were clear enough after a 10-minute drive from the north gate of the park. My star trails and night sky photos were also taken at the park's north gate with my phone, which was sufficient. I am planning to write a tutorial on how to photograph star trails using an iPhone.
⛺️Camping:
If you have ample time and the weather is suitable, I really want to try camping, especially as it provides an opportunity for stargazing. As Joshua Tree is a desert with a significant day and night temperature difference, I recommend camping to experienced outdoor enthusiasts.
✨Famous landmarks of Joshua Tree:
✅Arch Rock: A rock that resembles a bridge.
✅Skull Rock: A rock that resembles a skull.
✅Heart Rock: A rock that resembles a heart.
✅Baker Dam: Native murals and Big Horn Sheep.
✅Cholla Cactus Garden: A garden of short, small cacti.
