LA Travel Diary ✅ Must-Visit Food Spot: Redondo Seafood Market‼️
✨ Another seafood market that I've been eating at for many years. I've recommended it to countless friends. Although the dining environment is not great, the seafood is fresh. It has that local atmosphere. If you love seafood, you must give it a try. It reminds me of the seafood stalls I couldn't find after I moved to San Francisco.
✨ If you search on Google, you might find that Redondo Beach Fishmarket's operating hours are a bit off. They close at 7 PM, but they actually stay open until around 8-9 PM. On Sundays, you can even go until 9 AM. So, make sure to check the timing before you go.
⭐️ Sea Urchin
Sea urchin lovers, don't miss it! You can directly eat freshly opened live sea urchin with a spoon. Even after being opened for 5 minutes, their tentacles are still moving (I know it's kind of cruel). I usually choose the medium-sized ones for myself, which cost around $30. It's a bit more expensive than before the pandemic, but still worth it. Compared to Japanese restaurants' sea urchin sashimi, it is a great value for money, with the meat being fresh and sweet. Don't add anything, just eat it. I felt like my soul was leaving my body as I ate it.
⭐️ Oyster Bar
It's a must-have. They have discounted prices and a wide variety. There are usually long queues. If possible, give some cash tip to the workers because shucking oysters is really physically demanding. Those who have done it before know. My friend and I once ate 40 oysters as our personal record, haha. Today, I'll be a bit more conservative.
⭐️ Garlic Butter Lobster
This is the first time I ordered it. I used to order crabs, but the season passed and they weren't fatty enough. When I saw others ordering lobster tails, they looked really fat, so I had to try it. It's located near the clam chowder drink area on the other side of the cold showcase. Two lobsters cost around $120, and they are fatter than regular lobsters! You can grill or steam them. If it's a bit cold at night and you want to eat something warm, steam them and pour some butter over them. There's even an aluminum foil cover to keep them warm. We saved it for the end, so it didn't get cold. The meat is really tender. After eating the whole thing, I felt so full even on my way back home. Next time, I'll consider buying the largest one and sharing it with someone.
⭐️ Other delicious options include various shellfish, grilled fish, crabs, creamy clam bread bowls, grilled corn, and more. Come and try it out yourself.
⚠️ Friendly reminder: Out of ten visits, eight times it was cloudy and windy. The beach area is cold, so it's better to bring a long-sleeved jacket with you.
