Guide to Traveling in Hokkaido
❄️ Best Time to Visit: January to early March. Airplane tickets back from Hokkaido after the New Year are generally not expensive🎫 because March is the best season for snow, with heavy snowfall and many clear days, perfect for photography📷. Additionally, the Snow Festival in Hokkaido usually takes place in early February, featuring a variety of impressive ice sculptures.
✈️ Visa/Airplane Tickets: It can be difficult to make an appointment at the consulate, but fortunately, most travel agencies can assist you with the process for a fee of around 150 yuan. For a single-entry visa, you only need to prepare a copy of your diploma and bank statements. Typically, it takes about five working days to complete. There is only one route from Singapore to Hokkaido (to Sapporo, every two days). As winter flights are often delayed or cancelled due to snow, it is not recommended to have a layover～
🔆 Recommended Itinerary: Airport - Hakodate - Sapporo - Asahikawa - Otaru
I suggest staying in Hakodate for one or two days before circling around to Sapporo, Otaru, Asahikawa, or skiing resorts for day trips.
⌚️ Recommended Duration: Usually around one week. Winter clothes take up a lot of luggage space, and it's not very convenient to drag your luggage in the snow, unless you plan to visit Lake Akan or go further away～
🚗 Transportation Suggestions: If you are planning to visit many cities or attractions that JR trains cannot reach, you may consider renting a car. However, if you only plan to visit the cities mentioned above, purchasing a JR PASS in Hokkaido will save you a significant amount of money.
