The snowy Yosemite in California is like a fairyland, isn't it?❄️☃️
💚 Initially, we planned to see the fire waterfall, but after booking our accommodations, we realized it was going to snow. Moreover, a blizzard warning had been issued on the official website!
🏨 Since we couldn't cancel the room, we thought of trying our luck. As a result, we arrived at Yosemite just in time for the first heavy snowfall. But I recommend always checking the weather and official notices before planning your trip.
✅ Gear:
When it snows, the cold is genuinely bone-chilling. Pack your down jacket, sweaters and everything warm! Make sure your shoes are waterproof and slip-resistant!
If your car is not four-wheel drive, bringing snow chains is a must, and ideally, chains that are easy to put on and take off!! Don't be like us, struggling to put them on in heavy snow for an hour.
If you don't have snow chains, you can purchase them at an auto store not too far from the mountain entrance (rentals are no longer provided there). Let the shop assistant know the model of your car tires, and they can help decide whether to put them on the front or back wheels. We paid about 75 USD.
📷 If you're using a camera, remember to bring a waterproof cover. I completely forgot about this, and hence, didn't dare to use my camera much throughout the journey, apart from taking a few photos at highly picturesque locations.
📍Route:
We stayed at Yosemite view lodge, which is conveniently located not far from the entrance. The spots we visited in a single day are roughly shown in the fifth and sixth photos. Most attractions are situated in a circle, making it the most convenient route!
The trail that everyone must go check out is Lower Yosemite Falls. A 30-minute walk will take you to two waterfalls, one high and one low, which are extremely awe-inspiring and beautiful. It's a testament to the wonders of nature.
❄️ I highly recommend stopping by village store along the way. It has a lot of attractive mementos, fridge magnets and more. Just a 5-minute walk to the visitor center, you can get your passport stamped and even visit the nearby post office to send beautiful postcards to your friends (9 am – 5 pm.)
However, we did not find the parking spot everyone was talking about for the fire waterfall. Maybe it was closed due to the snow. We took a tour around the park and took a picture of a dry rock at the most optimal viewing point (the penultimate photo.)
