The Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) is a well-known attraction in Bangkok, which was built to commemorate Zheng Xin, the 41st king of Thailand and a hero of the Chinese nation. The temple was pieced together using pottery donated by the Thai people at the time.
📖 Historical Significance: Zheng Xin's father was Chinese and his mother was Siamese. After he was born, he received traditional education for children of nobility and entered politics when he grew up.
In 1764, the Burmese army launched a large-scale invasion of Thailand. Zheng Xin led the military and civilians to bravely resist the invasion. He made outstanding contributions to the war and became a national hero of Thailand.
🕍 Temple Scenery:
Stupas: There is one large and four small identical stupas in the temple.
The main stupa is a 79 meter high Vatican style spire whose base and body are square, with many levels and a simple and solemn look.
Buddha Statues: The sturdy stupa has layers of Buddha sculptures on all four sides, the images of the Buddhas are lifelike and beautifully carved.
Inside the Temple: Inside are the Grand Hall, the Hall with the footprint of the Buddha, Stupas, Buddha Pavilions, a giant demon statue over six meters high, corridors, rockeries, and Chinese-style statues.
