🌈Whether you come to the Getty Museum by car or bus, you will wait for the cable car at the Lower Tram Station. However, the magic of the Getty Center begins from this point. Next to the cable car station, there are more than twenty modern sculptures scattered around The Fran and Ray Stark Sculpture Terrace. Every corner has an artistic surprise waiting for you.
🚠Upon reaching the Getty Center by cable car, as you walk towards the building, you can see the grand entrance staircase and modern art sculptures. If the weather is clear, the scenery at the entrance is enough to make you pause. And if you visit during the holiday season in the evening, the light decorations here are very charming.
🌟The museum has five pavilions (east, west, south, north and the exhibition hall terrace) each with its own color, height, and style. Apart from parts of the buildings made from artificial white tiles, other wall materials are made from natural travertine from Italy. Up close, they show a mild yellow gradient, looking ivory white from a distance. The combination looks particularly good under LA’s sky, and shows various styles under different sunlight angles. If you look closely, you can also find fossils.
💦Some thoughtful arrangements add to the beauty of the outdoor space. For example, the buildings are staggered in height and are connected by bridges and galleries engulf a spacious open-air courtyard, reducing an oppressive feel. It's especially relaxing to walk past fountains and peaceful, limpid waterways.
✨Natural light in the buildings is also a great feature of the Getty Center. For instance, the walls of the reception center are largely made of transparent glass replacing cement, allowing natural light to flood the interior. Additionally, a computer-assisted system provides timely adjustments for shading. The upper floor galleries in the pavilions use natural light and a special light filtering device to prevent sunlight from damaging the exhibits.
💥The Getty Center has excellent outdoor views, and the scenery is beautiful. If the Griffith Observatory is your first choice for night views of Los Angeles, then in my opinion, the best place for daytime views is right here. As the museum is positioned to the west, close to the sea, you can see not only the metropolitan skyline of Los Angeles but also the wide scope where the sea meets land with the mountain and waters in sight.
🫧There are architectural tours from Tuesday to Sunday with six sessions per day: 10:15 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm. The meeting place is at the Museum Entrance Hall.
