The correct way to enjoy : A snowy mountain fairy-tale โ๏ธ
Several winter rains have turned the peaks of East Los Angeles into a silver-white spectacle under the splendid sunshine, beckoning us to venture up the mountains to frolic in the snow. Come and join in on this ice and snow meet for the New Year.
โ๏ธSetting off from Irvine on the weekend, it takes just an hour and a half to reach the snowy world of Mountain High. The journey takes you east-northeast through spring and autumn and into the winter wonderland draped in white snow. The traffic is smooth, the mountain roads are straightforward and clean, and the unending pure white snowy mountains elevate the mood.
โ๏ธHeading upwards from the town of Wrightwood, you pass the Mountain High Resort ski field and Yeti Snow Play. The winding mountain roads are flanked by many forested areas suitable for snow play, ideal for snowball fights, building snowmen, and forest explorations on a snowboard. Any roadside slope becomes a playground for both kids and adults to revel in the snow.
โ๏ธContinuing along the Angeles Crest Hwy, we discovered this sprawling forest. Although situated high among the mountains, the area doesn't get windy and provides many gentle slopes of varying heights perfect for children's snow sled rides. The area is also well-equipped with amenities such as rest areas, barbeque spots, hiking zones, cabins, and restrooms. Further up the mountain, you'll find several snow scenic trails with stunning views. Many local American families come well-prepared to play and BBQ in the snow. You can also catch a glimpse of the pure white layered mountain peaks from the cliff at the forest's edge, it's a snow scene worth capturing; a sight for sore eyes.
โ๏ธThe afternoon return trip to LA on the one-way mountain road often experiences traffic. To avoid this, you can take another route parallel to Highway 138, the Lone Pine Canyon Rd, when passing through Wrightwood. The road is less traveled and presents beautiful downhill views bathed in the setting sun.
Enjoy the right way to embrace winter at Mountain High without having to venture far from home.
